Planning a road trip?

When you’re planning a road trip, there are typically three main things that you will be thinking about. The first is overall safety.

That involves making sure that your vehicle is in good condition and that you have everything you need to stay hydrated, secure and out of danger no matter what might happen along the way. The next is making sure that you have the directions you need to get from your starting point to your destination. Finally, the last involves making sure that the trip stays bearable instead of driving you to madness from the boredom (or from your kids who are bored in the back seat).

The first two points can be covered before you leave.

A bit of advance planning, such as making sure that you have a GPS plugged in, that you’ve brought your car in for a tune-up, that you’ve checked the trip weather forecast along the way, and that you’ve packed enough food and water for the trip, will usually do the trick.

The last point can be a bit more challenging.

These days, however, gadgets are often the solution to the boredom problem. Smartphones, alone, can provide music, game apps, and other types of entertainment that can make a trip far more bearable. It can even become a handy travel cam. Take pictures from the car, or from the side of the road when you pull off to stretch your legs for a while. Practice your techniques and discover what you can do with light and perspective to give yourself some ever-improving images.

Whether you’re a passenger who needs to keep occupied, or whether you want to make sure your kids aren’t too miserable from having to sit for hours at a time, a smartphone or tablet can be a godsend.

To this end, though, you’ll want to make sure you have the best charger your smartphone or tablet can get. Though this will often involve a charger that plugs into a wall socket when you reach your destination, for the journey, a portable battery charger can do the trick. When you choose the best charger for travel, these backup battery packs can give your smartphone several charges before the power bank, itself, needs to be recharged.
